There are a lot of myths when it comes to home based business opportunities. You can be extremely successful with many of today’s home based business opportunities, but only if you are careful to avoid all these common stumbling blocks.
The main important truth you will need to be aware of in order to operate an effective home based business is that it is the same as running every other small business. You will need to first know and have an understanding of how to operate a small business, then simply do it from home. The biggest reason a lot of home based businesses are unsuccessful happens because the owner failed to figure out how to be a successful business owner.
Look, you could be one of the best cabinet maker on earth. But that will not qualify you to own a cabinet making business enterprise. As a matter of fact, producing good cabinets and being in business are two different skill sets! Cabinet makers build cabinets, entrepreneurs build business organizations. If you wish to achieve success with any one of today’s home based business opportunities, you are going to first need to learn how to become an entrepreneur.
The first thing is to confirm the opportunity has the 3 essential business principles:
Assets
Leverage
Residual Income
Assets
An asset is something that gives off profits for both you and your small business, while a liability is anything that costs more compared with what it earns. For instance, owning a limousine would probably be an asset, however owning a Corvette is normally a liability (unless you rent it out by the hour). If the small business has assets, those assets could very well make you money 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Your corporation may very well be generating you money as you lay on the beach.
Please don’t be your small business’s only asset, or you will not have a home business, just a home based job! Keep clear of home based business opportunities that are really just an opportunity for you to work twice as hard, at home.
Leverage
Leverage takes a lot of forms, like credit (economic leverage), personnel (time leverage), tools (physical leverage), and so on. My favorite kind of leverage is team building. Just because your small business is actually operated from your own home does not necessarily mean you cannot have employees. But if your company uses the Power of Other People, those people can certainly make you income twenty-four hours a day, 365 days per year. Your company can be earning you money even when you hang out with your family. Keep away from home based business opportunities that need you to become a “One Man Show”.
Residual Income
The most typical model is that you do the job once after which get paid once. Then you work for a second time, and thus receive money yet again. This model has you trading time for dollars. Bad news, this is called “a job”.
Your home business needs to allow you to work once and then receive money again and again.
